Already more than a year ago, we came to establish ourselves as a mission’s base in the area of San Pedro, DR. One of our goals has been to mobilize the local church and to the train young people to be missionaries here in the Dominican Republic and outside of the country.
In the beginning of this year 2012, in a staff meeting (all foreigners) we prayed that God would send us Dominican youth to volunteer and be students in the Discipleship Training School (DTS). For us, that became a dream that we put in God’s hands. We needed that spark of joy that the Dominicans have and for our meetings to be bilingual. But more than anything, we wanted to see local youth impacting their own nation!
On base, they helped us with meal preparations, cleaning, translating, preparing tools, etc., etc., etc.
They also went out with the teams to do ministry in churches, evangelism in parks, the boardwalk, prisons, orphanages, the Haitian community and other places…
Our meetings are now bilingual. We have more help at the base and also now four of them are going to be doing their DTS in September! José Luis is going to Mexico, at the same time that Albeny, Harolin and Ricardo will be here in San Pedro. Lydia is an excellent translator that will help us by translating the DTS here and next year she will do her DTS as well! The other guys will return to their homes to finish studying and are ready to help us whenever we need them!
Thank you so much to all the local churches for your support in this ministry.
May you be blessed by the Lord.
